Well, Hello cyber-land!
It has been some time since my last post. That is a shame, but at the time of it's inception, the blog seemed like a monster that I did not have time or energy to tame. Now, after months and months of silence, I think I have become organized enough that I think, think, that I can keep up with the rigors of blogging. I do not anticipate much traffic for obvious reasons.
The question I have been asking myself is, "Why blog?" I have many reasons why I have chosen to blog. I do intend on making this blog a place that I can work out and articulate my own thoughts and feelings about the task and delight of leading others in worship. I am no expert! I am a student, a learner. I have the privilege of attending an amazing Seminary where I am challenged in my thinking and perception. Through serving in a local church, I am also encountering unique opportunities to learn, adapt, and use what I'm learning at school. The point of this is to say that this blog will, hopefully, be a seedbed for thinking through many of the issues that come along with and arise through the corporate worship of the church.
Another reason to blog is related to the first. It is that by the very act of keeping up with a blog I will be forced accomplish my first goal with a certain regularity. I readily admit that it would be easy to plan a service of worship for my church with no thought, inserting hymns and songs everyone likes here and there. But, my responsibility and my plan is to do everything deliberately and with great care, when it comes to the worship of the body of Christ. The solemn task of choosing words to be on our lips as we praise and exalt our God through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit is not to be taken as lightly as some appear to do.
There are other reasons along with these that I'm sure we'll get to eventually. For now. I am reviving the blog and saying a big hello to all you out there in the sphere. I hope to be engaging our thinking together soon!
